Bokeh Beauty by LydiaRhianne Bokeh Beauty by LydiaRhianne
A young Anna's Hummingbird, I believe, at the Desert Museum near Tucson, Arizona. I really loved photographing these beautiful, little birds!

WoW! I'm gonna say this out loud, I am quite envious of this shot, it is really wonderful. Such nice detail on the bird and that gorgeous bokeh. Really a beautiful shot

Thank you! I'm quite happy with this shot since it was taken at the cost of me looking like a total dork, standing up on a bench and sticking my head into a tree, while other visitors to the park walked by and stared... :XD:

That's incredible! I tried snapping some pictures of hummingbirds, but they just wouldn't sit still. :P

I had a cat that would kill these at least 2x a week. I hated it. They are such beautiful creatures!

:( Did your cat wear a bell? I've always wondered if that actually prevents them from catching other animals.

Yeah, but he was so fast. He would catch baby bunnies and run by with them in his mouth. They scream like kids. I would chase him around my property for hours to try and save the bunnies. He was a little stinker but I still loved him. :D

Are they hard to photograph? I always have trouble photographing birds :( they fly away too fast before I can capture them on my camera! Lovely shot though!! So beautiful.

I had never been in an area with hummingbirds around before and usually I have a hard time photographing birds too. The hummingbirds at the Desert Museum were in a large enclosure and were also quite quick to move somewhere different.

However, after being there for a while, I noticed that some of the females and young males sat around in one place for quite some time, so it was easier to photograph them, possibly because they weren't defending their territory quite as much as the adult males . A couple birds let me stick my macro lens in their face, so I was able to get quite close, which was pretty cool! :D
